ACCOMMODATION CHECKLIST

This is a list of the basic essential and a few optional extras for setting up a safe, healthy home for your guinea pigs.

ABSOLUTE ESSENTIALS

  • hutch or cage
  • bedding
  • hay
  • sturdy food bowl
  • water bottle (minimum 300ml)
  • shade
  • shelter & protection from direct sunlight, winds, rain, draughts, damp, fumes etc
  • protection from other animals
  • good quality food
  • fresh vegetables & fruit daily
  • exercise

OPTIONAL EXTRAS

  • exercise run
  • tubes
  • treats ball
  • fruit wood or similar to gnaw on

In addition to these things, pet shops display a dazzling array of accessories, toys, 'houses', domes, igloos, log-rolls, chews, treats, etc. etc. etc............. This gives the potential to spend a small fortune on your pets if you so desire. Your guinea pig will be equally happy with the basic things in life which are free or relatively inexpensive, but will also enjoy the more elaborate options. It is entirely up to you and your budget.
